Dolby Vision (DV)
Dolby's premium HDR format: 12-bit, dynamic metadata, tone-mapped per scene.
What is it?
Dolby Vision carries up to 12-bit colour and dynamic metadata that describes every scene, letting the display (TV-led DV) or the player (player-led / LLDV) map the picture precisely to the display's brightness. 'Standard' TV-led DV is tunnelled inside an 8-bit RGB signal; low-latency DV is a normal 12-bit 4:2:2 stream. DV profile 5 is used by streaming apps, profile 7 by UHD discs.
Why it matters with the HDfury Vertex²
The HDfury Vertex² passes both DV types at 18 Gbps, decodes and displays the DV metadata and the DV block of your TV's EDID, and — its most popular trick — creates a custom DV block so an HDR10-only projector or Samsung TV receives Dolby Vision as LLDV. It also stores (sniffs) the DV string of a DV TV so you can pass DV through an AVR that does not support it.
How to use it on the Vertex²
Web server → HDR/DV → DV section: 'Captured DV metadata', 'DV EDID datablock' (from the sink) and 'DV datablock creator'. Web server → EDID → Automix → DV flag 'Custom DV string', or Custom EDID 2/3/5/6/7/8/10 which contain DV blocks. Full walkthrough: the Dolby Vision guide on this site.
