Hot plug (HPD), Rsense and +5V
The handshake signals on an HDMI cable that tell a source a display is present.
What is it?
Three signals manage an HDMI connection: the source sends +5 V to power the EDID chip, the display answers with Hot Plug Detect (HPD) to say 'I'm here, read my EDID', and Rsense tells the source a receiver is powered. Sources re-read the EDID every time HPD toggles. Many devices (Apple TV, Xbox, Shield) keep +5 V alive in standby, which confuses ordinary switches and wakes up some Android TVs at night.
Why it matters with the HDfury Vertex²
The HDfury Vertex² controls all of these: it can hold HPD high so a source always sees an active connection (no re-handshake when you switch), toggle HPD when you change an EDID, and manage the +5 V on each output — its unique fix for TVs that keep waking up or refuse to sleep. Its +5V/TMDS-based autoswitching also works with sources that never drop +5 V.
How to use it on the Vertex²
Web server → CONFIG → TX0/TX1 +5V control (also via RS232/IP/IR), autoswitch mode (Off / On Power / On Sense), 'hotplug to TX0' option on the Scaler page. Config export shows Rsense, HPD and TMDS state of every port for troubleshooting.
